The Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival returns to The Broadway Theatre with a new format they’re calling THE WAR OF THE WEEKENDS! Come and check it out on November 19th to 21st and November 27th to 28th for two weekends of weird and wild international independent cinema, presented by Procido LLP!
Phreaker
Director/writer: Adam Yorke
Starring: Cole Asher Phillips, Enrico Colantoni and Robb Wells
Phreaking: hack into telecommunications systems, especially to obtain free calls.
Inspired by true events. Phreaker follows Jake Bellman (Cole Asher Phillips), a blind teenager as he spends his nights cold calling strangers trying to find someone to talk to. It is then that he discovers party lines and stumbles upon a group of people known as Phreakers. With his talent for mimicking voices, he begins hacking into the phone companies and eventually swatting enemies with fake 911 calls. He is now on the radar of the phone companies and the FBI.
Phreaker is also joined by the short film 9-minute film by Silvia Conesa, Last Generation which follows Lucas, an 11-month-old baby with a strong desire: for his parents to stop looking at their cell phones and pay attention to him. Every night he sighs dejectedly in his crib, asking the stars to change his luck.
The full lineup is available on Broadway Theatre’s website and big shoutout to Huw Evans of Eyecatcher Video for creating the SFFF’s festival poster!
